St Luke's '“ a place at the heart and hub of local life

SUMMER fairs are a great British tradition and to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday and the life of the community here in Southsea, we're planning a free community fun day.

It’s all happening at St Luke’s Church, Greetham Street, on Saturday, June 11, from 11am until 4pm and there will be plenty for all ages to enjoy.

We’re joining forces with others in the community including The Foyer, Victoryland and the Somers Town Adventure Playground to organise the day.

There will be live music and drama performed by local groups in the church building throughout the afternoon.

While outside there will be a bouncy castle, circus skills and a traditional egg and spoon race.

There will be plenty to eat as well with home-made cakes and other tasty treats.

There will be a market stall area as well with plenty of bargains to be had.

The fun day is all part of bigger changes happening at St Luke’s as the 19th century building is reshaped and reimagined for life in the 21st century.

Since I came to St Luke’s little more than a year ago, I have met so many people for whom St Luke’s has been a part of their story – from people who came to St Luke’s School to those who were married or christened here.

St Luke’s has been a part of so many people’s journeys and we want to continue to journey with people of all ages – celebrating the good times and being with them in the more difficult periods.

The Sunday before the fun day, we will gather as a church to pray for God’s blessing on the fun day and the wider community of which we are a part.

Someone recently described St Luke’s as a place at the heart and hub of the community. It is our prayer that the community of which we are a part may always feel that the church (its people and its buildings) is there for them.

Christians believe in a God who loves everyone no matter what. A God who is warm, generous and never too busy to be with us.

We want to share that overwhelming love of God with all who live, work or play in this community.
