FOUR-footed friends can join their owners on the seventh annual Wag Walk in aid of the region’s biggest animal shelter.

The sponsored dog walk will take place at the Stubbington Ark animal shelter in Ranvilles Lane, Stubbington, on Sunday, April 29, starting at 10.30am.

Last year’s event raised more £3,000 for the charity which needs to find £1m a year to keep its doors open.

Mandy Leeming from Portchester said: ‘I have always got my rescue dogs from the Ark.

‘This year I will be taking part in the event for the first time – I will be walking Jedward, my six-year-old golden retriever.

‘I’m hoping to raise over £200 for the shelter and have got my 10-year-old twins Tyler and Madison involved too.’

Steve Baxter, operations manager at the Ark, is responsible for organising the route and added: ‘I’ve shortened the route this year to about four-and-a-half miles.

‘There is always a great atmosphere amongst the dog owners and their animals on the day and people of all ages take part – the oldest owner last year was 76 and the oldest dog was 10.’

As in previous years, the Wag Walk Shield, a meal for two and doggy treats will be awarded to the person who raises the most sponsorship.

Sponsorship forms are available in person from the Stubbington Ark or you can contact the fundraising department by calling 01329 666916 or 07880 926751.
