TWO kayakers had to be rescued after becoming trapped in thick mud near Emsworth.

The pair got into difficulty yesterday evening when the ebbing tide left them stranded in Chichester Harbour.

They were forced to climb out of their kayaks on to the mudflats and became stuck in the mud.

Coastguard teams from Hayling Island and Portsmouth were called out and pulled the pair out of the mud.

A spokesman for the coastguard said they were brought safely ashore and did not need medical attention.
