FIREFIGHTERS were called to a University of Portsmouth building after a small fire started in a light fitting.

Five fire crews – three from Southsea, one from Havant and one from Portchester – were called to the incident at 11.25am today.

The special equipment unit, aerial ladder platform and command unit were also called to the scene, but the fire was out when they arrived.

Students were evacuated from Park Building, on King Henry I Street, Portsmouth, by security staff and firefighters isolated the electrics and made the scene safe.
