A DOZEN teams from all over the world will meet in Gosport for a submarine race this year.

A total of 12 teams from universities in six countries are to take part in the second European International Submarine Races, which are to be held at QinetiQ’s ocean basin at Haslar.

The event took place for the first time last year, and this year includes teams from Canada, Germany, New Zealand, and the UK.

Race director Professor William Megill said: ‘There were just six teams at our inaugural races in 2012, so it is highly rewarding to see a dozen registered already, with three more on the waiting list.

‘We want the members of our teams to have a highly enjoyable week at the races, but they know only too well the overall objective is to encourage innovative design in submarine engineering.’

The race takes place in May.
