After 15 years together, these best friends finally got married on the '˜most perfect day' at the Holiday Inn, Southsea, on August 11.

Helen, nee Connolly, first met her soulmate through her brother at a party.

'˜I never thought much of it as I only knew him through my brother,' says Helen, '˜but Matt makes me laugh so much and we get on so well.'

The newlyweds on their big day.

Both from Portsmouth, Matt, 40, a gas engineer, and Helen, 46, clicked straight away and became a huge part of each other's lives - but Helen insists marriage was never at the forefront of their minds.

'˜I think it was always something we wanted to do but family life got in the way, so we put it to the back of our minds,' she explains.

'˜It was only when my youngest daughter Courtney said 'please mummy, get married', that we eventually got engaged,' laughs Helen.

On the lead up to her August wedding, Helen says the weather was glorious. But typically, the night before her big day, the weather took a turn for the worse.

'˜The night before, it was torrential rain and wind.

'˜I just thought 'oh my god, I hope it's not like this tomorrow'. But when I opened the curtains, the sunshine was beautiful,' Helen reminsces.

Helen lost her father when she was 26 but believes he there for her on her big day.

'˜I was emotional on the day, but not scared. I just thought my dad must be looking down on me,' Helen smiles.
