PORTSMOUTH Olympian Gemma Spofforth gave the thumbs-up to a council-run gym when she tried out the fitness equipment.

The 24-year-old world record holder joined two other Olympic hopefuls, fencer Tom Hendrie, 20, and volleyball player Tom Lord, 25, at Chichester’s Westgate Leisure Centre.

The gym has had a makeover with 78 pieces of new fitness equipment.

The revamp is in time to celebrate the centre’s 25th anniversary this year.
