SWINGING sixties were the flavour of the night at a fundraiser which raised more than £550 for a cancer charity.

The night was the first of its kind to be organised by the Red Lion Hotel in East Street, Fareham.

They were raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support by hosting a dinner dance with a three-course meal, followed by music from the 60s and 70s.

Virginia Pons, 29, the event organiser, said: ‘It was a really good night.

‘Everybody was in the mood and dancing. They were really generous and the DJ was fab. He really knows 60s music.’

Portsmouth DJ Pete Cross from Angel Radio volunteered to spin some authentic songs from the era.

The evening was a sell out, as fans of the 60s and 70s gathered to share their love of the music.

Party-goers took part in a music quiz and also bought raffle tickets. All the raffle prizes had been donated by local businesses.

After the success of this first night, the hotel will be looking at hosting another evening next year.

Ms Pons said: ‘I had really good feedback from this night. At the moment, because of Christmas, the hotel is very busy, once Christmas is over we will think about running another charity event.’
