HAVANT Borough Council has vowed to switch off lights in its buildings as part of ‘Earth Hour’ this weekend.

In a bid to reduce carbon footprints around the world, famous landmarks and large organisations are all turning off their non-essential lights between 8.30pm and 9.30pm this Saturday. The council is urging residents to also do its bit.

Pennie Brown, climate change adviser at the council, said: ‘It doesn’t mean you have to sit in darkness for an hour, you could make home-made lanterns, and it’s about turning off lights that really aren’t needed if you’re not in the room.’
