A woman was rescued from Portsmouth Harbour by an heroic taxi driver early today.
The man was at the taxi rank at the Gosport pontoon when he heard her screams for help, and immediately went into the water to reach her.
Police, ambulance and coastguard were all called to the scene along with Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service.
GAFIRS said they were mobilised at 1am.
Coxswain Brian Pack said: ‘When we arrived at the scene the woman was on the rocks by Gosport Premier Marina with a policeman and was helped into the police boat.
‘She was then transferred onto the ferry pontoon and into the hands of South Central Ambulance Service.’
