THE GRUELLING 26-mile course took its toll on Gavin McCue.

Although the 41-year-old, from Nutwick Road, Denvilles, Havant, got through it physically, he found he could not stop the tears at the end.

Mr McCue ran for the charity MACS, which provides support to children who are either born without eyes or have severe eye problems.

He said: ‘When I was deciding who to run for this really stood out for me.

‘At the end of the race the charity had a stall and I met some of the children the charity helps. I had a few tears, It was very emotional.

‘It made it all real - the reason we were doing this. I feel so privileged to have been able to help such a great charity.’

Despite the need to focus on the race Mr McCue managed to record most of it using a hand-held camera.

He even took shots of the crowd shouting his name out to cheer him on.

He said: ‘It was really, really tough going but it was just amazing. The atmosphere there was incredible.’
