THE young man who died when he fell from a bridge over the A3 has been named by police.

Seventeen-year-old Damien Thomas was hit by a car following the fall just after 9.10pm on Saturday.

The teenager, from Stoneham Close, Petersfield, fell from a bridge over the southbound lane of the A3 at Petersfield.

Mr Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 61-year-old male driver of the Kia Cee’d that he was involved in the accident and his wife, who was a passenger, were both uninjured.

They are from Waterlooville. Police have launched an investigation.

The road was shut for several hours after the incident as police carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

The A3 southbound was closed between the junctions of the A272 Petersfield

north and the A272 Petersfield south.

The road re-opened in the early hours of Sunday.

Detectives are seeking any witnesses to call them.
