THREE teenagers got caught in the tide off Langstone Harbour.

The group were making their way back to Hayling Beach along a sandbank at the eastern side of the harbour when the water came in.

People on Hayling Beach dialled 999 after they saw the teenagers, believed to be aged between 16 and 17, waving for help.

A crew from Portsmouth Lifeboat Station were sent out but the teenagers managed to swim back to shore at around 1pm yesterday.

They were taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham as a precaution to make sure they hadn’t swallowed any water.

A spokeswoman for Solent Coastguard said: ‘This time last year they would have been able to walk back because the nature of the sandbank was different.’
