BAE Systems has installed a series of energy-saving floodlights at the Royal Navy rugby, hockey and football pitches at HMS Temeraire.

HMS Temeraire, which is in the city centre, just outside Gunwharf Quays, provides modern sports facilities for all forces personnel and their dependants, ex-forces and local schools.

Light to the hockey pitch has been increased by 100 per cent while the rugby and football pitch has increased by more than 75 per cent.

Lt Cdr Robin Young, the navy’s sports lottery and grants manager at HMS Temeraire, said: ‘Royal Navy personnel and the local community now have access to two high-quality playing surfaces that won’t suffer from adverse weather conditions.

‘The new floodlights also benefit us all by offering low light emissions and a significant saving on energy.’

James Davis, naval base services director from BAE Systems Maritime Services added: ‘We are extremely proud to continue to deliver first class facilities to the Royal Navy.’
