WORDSMITHS are being encouraged to put pen to paper and have a shot at becoming the official Hampshire Poet of 2016.
Hampshire Cultural Trust is launching the biannual competition to find the county’s best poet on Thursday, which is National Poetry Day.
The winning poet will receive three paid commissions highlighting projects and activities during the year, including poems linked to the trust’s programme of exhibitions
Trust chief executive Janet Owen said: ‘The competition is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the cultural life of the county.
‘We’re looking for not only a fantastic poet who can whisk us away with their words, but also someone who can champion poetry and literacy across the county.’
The competition is open to anyone over 18 living, working or studying in Hampshire.
The competition closes on December 10.
