It was the best year yet for the annual collection at Waitrose in Southsea for the Tom Prince Cancer Trust.

Adele and Clinton Prince, who run the trust in memory of their son Tom, raised more than 1,120 in just one day.

Clinton said: 'We were pretty chuffed with that.

'Not only were the donations extremely generous, but it's raising awareness as well.

'We'd like to thank all the staff at Waitrose, and say Merry Christmas to everyone who has helped us throughout the year.'

Tom died in 2004 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, the teenage bone cancer, on the eve of his 16th birthday.

Since then his parents have worked tirelessly to raise 1m to fund research into the disease.

They are more than half way there.
