Things to do around Portsmouth this weekend

Here are our what-to-do suggestions from some of the great events being held around Portsmouth this weekend.

A parade is being held in Gosport before the Christmas lights are switched on in the High Street today.

The event starts at 3.30pm at Falklands Garden and the light switch-on in the High Street is at 5.30pm

A Christmas lights celebration in the precinct at Waterlooville is being held between 1pm - 6pm (Lights at 5.25pm)

And in Southsea, the Albert Road celebration of lights is from 4pm to 6pm

There are also lots of Christmas fairs and bazaars being held, including at All Saints Church in Denmead from 10am-12.30pm, Holy Trinity Church, Trinity Green, Haslar Road, Gosport from 10am-1pm, St Josephs RC Church Hall in Havant from 12pm-3pm, St Wilfrid’s Church, George Street, Portsmouth from 10am and at The Salvation Army hall in Powerscourt Road, Portsmouth from 10am.

And dancers can trip the light fantastic at Admiral Lord Nelson School in Dundas Lane, Portsmouth, from 7.30pm –10.30pm tonight with 50/50 Ballroom, Latin American and sequence dancing. All standards are welcome. Admission is £4. Call 07980 058310 or visit ballroomrazzamatazz.co.uk.

The George and Dragon in Kingston Road, Portsmouth has Kenny Mayes playing 50s and 60s music from 8pm.

Tomorrow, the Christmas spirit continues at the Kings Theatre in Southsea at 6pm with Carols at the Kings.

From 1pm in West Street, check out Festive Fun in Fareham. There will be a stage in West Street hosted by Breeze 107, where acts including The Courtiers, Shenanigans and Marmalade Moonshine will perform. There will also be fun fair rides, food and drink stalls, a market, and the chance to meet costumed characters Snow White and Cinderella. The Christmas lights will be officially switched on at 4.45pm, and followed by a firework display.

St Mary’s Church in Fratton Road Portsmouth is staging a Candlelit Advent Service starting at 6.30pm.
