DOGS of all kinds will be welcomed at a a Pennies for the Paw event.

The family fun day, which is free to enter, will take place on Southsea’s Castle Field on Saturday from 10am to 5pm, not on Sunday as previously reported.

Organisers expect hundreds of pooches and their two-legged friends will be there to enjoy dog shows, agility demos as well as other events.

Organiser Caroline Cogan said she hoped the dog day would be even more successful than last year’s show.

She said: ‘Last year was just brilliant and the dog shows were really busy.

‘We had people coming from far and wide.

‘Hopefully this year it will be a really amazing day as well.’

The dog lovers’ event will raise money for Serbia’s Forgotten Paws charity and Portsmouth City Council-run stray dog kennels.

A highlight of the day will be a charity dog walk along the seafront, which will have a £5 charge.

There will also be a ‘temptation alley’ which will test your pooch’s willpower in the face of yummy treats.

Ms Cogan said: ‘You will get prizes if your dog gets to the end without deviating and going over to the treats.’

Other attractions will include pony rides, a bouncy castle and other inflatables, face-painting and cupcake decorating.

There will also be stalls selling pet-related goods as well as food and drink.
