MORE than £20,000 has been given to groups that promote culture and recreation.

Hampshire County Council has awarded three groups, in Havant, £23,880 to share to help benefit the area.

The Hampshire Dance Trust, on East Street, received a grant of £7,000, which will go towards a sustainable commercial dance class programme.

The Spring Art and Heritage Centre, also on East Street, got funding of £9,980. The money will be used for marketing to increase audiences and tickets sales.

The third group, Making Space, received £6,900. The creative workshop organisation, on Bishopstoke Road, will use the money to develop a five-year business plan.

Money for the grants came from The Organisational Change Fund which supports projects for organisations to become self-sustaining and less dependent on the council.
