THREE stranded children were rescued off Paulsgrove chalkpit after bad weather caught them out this evening.

The children – aged seven to 12 years – had become stranded on the wet slippery surface after it started raining heavily.

Fire crews from Cosham escorted the youngsters to safety within half an hour of attending the scene at 6pm.

A fire crew spokesperson said: ‘The children were unable to get down from the chalkpit after the rain caught them out. We would advise people not to go up there when it is dark and wet – it can be very dangerous.’
