Top navy officer the guest of honour at Fareham's HMS Collingwood
SAILORS' chests puffed out with pride in Fareham as one of the Royal Navy's top officers paid the town's naval base a special visit.
Rear Admiral Bob Tarrant, commander operations, stopped by HMS Collingwood as the guest of honour and reviewing officer during the base’s annual Ceremonial Divisions.
Eagle-eyed Admiral Tarrant watched as the 800 officers and ratings paraded, before he presented awards and medals to a number of sailors for both academic achievement and exemplary service.
Escorted by Captain Andy Jordan, the commander of HMS Collingwood and the Maritime Warfare School, the Admiral inspected the ceremonial guard of honour before reviewing HM Royal Marines Band Collingwood, which provided the musical accompaniment throughout the event.
Captain Jordan said it was a proud day for the base and a key chance for its personnel to show off their skills.
‘It was my pleasure to welcome Adml Tarrant and other guests to this annual ceremonial event,’ he added.
‘Divisions are a great illustration of discipline, commitment, teamwork and loyalty; values the Royal Navy holds dear.’
