CONE-SHAPED clouds that form in the same way as a tornado have been spotted over Hampshire.

These funnel clouds, pictured from Fareham on Monday, build around a localised area of intensely low pressure. They do not reach the ground, if it did it would become a tornado, or if it reaches water it becomes a waterspout.

A MET office spokesman said recent weather has been conducive for funnel clouds and they have been seen in Bognor Regis, as reported in The News yesterday, Brighton and Hertfordshire.
