Commutersget chance to inspect £7m project

A YEAR-LONG £7m project to improve the capacity at the A27 Avenue in Fareham was unveiled to the public yesterday at a public exhibition.

Work got under way on Tuesday which will see new lanes installed along the road to reduce congestion at peak times, a dedicated bus lane on the Station Roundabout and a pedestrian and cycle path put in place from West Street along the road down to Fareham College in Bishopsfield Road among other minor alterations to the road layout.

The project is funded by the council, the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership, Network Rail and Stagecoach South West.

Commuters at Fareham Station will also see a new shop in place of one of the waiting rooms, a new footway on the north side and a cycle hub for 156 bicycles.

The exhibition in the station was open to hundreds of commuters to have a look at from 11am until 7pm.

Work on the improvements at the station forecourt is expected to get under way later in this summer in July.
