It said in a tweet: ‘Southampton Rd jctn Sevenoaks Rd traffic signals are out, approach with caution.’

A spokeswoman for the authority said the signal failure comes after issues which arose at the junction on Monday.

She added: ‘Following issues with the signals yesterday morning Colas Engineers have been on site to identify the cause of the signal failure.

‘Unfortunately on rare occasions some faults can take longer to rectify, as is the instance here.

‘Colas are on site again this morning and will continue to keep Portsmouth City Council informed as the day progresses.’

It came after lights at the junction were found to have switched off at ‘random’ times over a period of days.
