Dumped microwave leads to evacuation of retail park stores

A SUSPICIOUS package that closed a Portsmouth retail park for an hour this morning turned out to be a flytipped microwave oven.

Police closed part of Ocean Park Retail Park, in Burrfields Road, after a suspicious package was reported in a car parking bay, near to the Carpet Right and Homebase stores.

A 15-metre cordon was put in place, while sniffer dogs inspected the package, which was wrapped in a bin bag with a wire around it, and found it to be safe.

Police took the microwave away by 11.30am and the park reopened by 12.30pm.
