Family pets perish in house fire in Copnor
A dog and cat died in a house fire in Copnor today.
Crews from Southsea and Cosham were called to a house on the corner of Vernon Road and Monckton Road just before 11.30am where a fire had started in the kitchen.
Firefighters entered the house through the rear door and managed to take a dog to safety, but sadly two pets were found dead inside.
Smoke spread the property into neighbouring houses but was cleared by the crews.
No people were inside the house at the time.

A spokesman for Southsea Fire Station said an investigation would take place into what caused the fire, but there were not thought to be suspicious circumstances.
