Firefighters from Fareham used inflatable mud paths to help the dad and his daughter - believed to be aged 10 - before the coastguard winched them to safety.

They were taken to Southampton General Hospital, although they are not thought to have been badly injured.

Coast guard officers from Lymington and Lee-on-the-Solent attended the scene.

A spokesperson for Hampshir Fire and Rescue said: ‘They had been out on a bike ride.

‘After abandoning their bikes, they get lost and then were stuck in a bog.

‘They were taken to hospital to be checked over as they were cold.’
