Fire breaks out at factory in Gosport

FIREFIGHTERS spent three hours tackling a fire at a factory.

The blaze happened at the Huhtamaki factory in Gosport at around 9pm on Thursday night.

Crews from Gosport, Fareham and Southsea were called to the scene, off Rowner Road, after thick, black smoke was seen rising from the site.

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘We were called to a fire involving a commercial premise in the Gosport area. The call came in at 9pm and the stop was received at 11.50pm.

‘The fire involved an electric roof fan.

‘Crews used two jets, two breathing apparatus and two ladders to extinguish the fire.’

No-one was injured in the blaze.

Huhtamaki is one of Gosport’s largest employers and makes paper cups, napkins and plates for companies.
