Fire crews tackle blazes in kitchens, woods and bins

FIREFIGHTERS had a busy time of it last night after they were called to several incidents.

Crews from Waterlooville and Cosham were sent to tackle a kitchen fire, in James Howell Court, in Bere Road, Denmead, at 9.25pm.

The blaze caused severe damage to the first-floor flat and crews were there until after 11pm.

Elsewhere, crews from St Mary’s Fire Station were sent to a woodland fire in Holly Hill Woodland Park, Sarisbury Green at 7.30pm.

Crews from Gosport went to a bin fire in Stanley Park at 9.30pm and crews from Southsea went to a fire in a bin shed at Northbrook Close, Buckland, at 8.20pm.

Southsea fire crew was also sent to rescue five students from a lift when it became stuck on the third floor of Jassi Halls, in Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth, at 10.10pm. The students were freed by 10.30pm.
