On Saturday evening a blaze ripped through the roof of Casa Brasil, causing extensive damage.

In a statement released yesterday by marketing manager Andy Sharp, he praised people for their words of kindness in the wake of the blaze.

He added: ‘Investigations are ongoing as to the exact origin of the fire and we are working closely with Hampshire Fire and Rescue and insurer’s representatives to identify the cause.

‘Casa Brasil has a very stringent regime of cleaning the kitchen extract duct weekly and therefore it is believed that poor maintenance of this is unlikely to have been the cause.’

Casa Brasil has also praised the prompt attendance of professionalism of firefighters, adding crews’ hard work saved much of the building from damage.

Mr Sharp added: ‘The restaurants immediately below Casa Brasil, Watermark and Relentless HQ, suffered some water damage but were able to open by midday on Sunday for a full lunchtime service.’

The site will open later this week after emergency repairs.
