Firefighters called to Queen Alexandra Hospital after smell of smoke

A SMELL of smoke sparked a major call-out of firefighters to Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Firefighters were called to the Cosham hospital at 11.37am after someone smelled smoke that had wafted in from outside.

Three crews, two from Southsea, one from Cosham and one from Portchester, went to the hospital but were stood down at 12.05pm after the false alarm.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the 999 call was made after the smell of smoke came through a ventilation system.

The number of appliances sent to the hospital was part of a predetermined response to fire calls at the hospital.
