The former Solent Enterprise, which was used by the Gosport Ferry company until 2005, was gutted by a blaze in the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen.

The vessel, now serving as floating restaurant Cafe Sundance, was engulfed in flames for about 30 minutes until the fire service was called to the incident.

‘She was a key part of our history and it is sad she is no longer with us.

‘She was a significant part of our cruising for a number of years.’

Firefighters managed to put out the flames at around 2am.

No-one was injured or thought to be on board the boat at the time of the incident.

The former Solent Enterprise was used to transport people between Gosport and Portsmouth for 34 years from 1971 before being replaced and sold to run on the River Thames, in London.

It was replaced by Spirit of Portsmouth in 2005.

As well as a pleasure cruiser, during the summer time, more than three million people use Spirit of Portsmouth to commute across the harbour every year.

The former Solent Enterprise, which used to be called Gay Enterprise, was bought by Capital Pleasure Boats in 2005 and was renamed Sundance.

She was later offered for sale again and was sold to Danish owners for use as a private yacht, leaving the River Thames in 2008.

She opened as a restaurant in 2012.
