Hampshire firefighters respond to calls

FIREFIGHTERS had a busy weekend responding to calls across the region.

Fareham fire crews helped to free a one-year-old trapped in a car on Sunday in Wycote Road, Gosport.

Five firefighters arrived at 9.30am and took 20 minutes to free the child from the vehicle, using pipes and other equipment to wedge the door of the vehicle open.

The Fareham crew also assisted the ambulance service after an elderly lady had become trapped behind a door after she had fallen 
and banged her head in her home in Mallory Crescent, Fareham.

The services freed the woman after 15 minutes by cutting the door with an electric saw.

Firefighters from Southsea also rescued three people after they were trapped in a lift at the Ibis hotel in Fratton Way, Fratton at 12.30am on Sunday morning.

The fire service was also called to tackle a car fire on the northbound side of the A3 near Clanfield on Saturday.
