Hampshire search charity wants to sign up more volunteers

PEOPLE are being encouraged to sign up as volunteers for a charity that helps search for vulnerable missing persons.

Hampshire Search and Rescue, also known as HANTSAR, helps the police and other agencies in searches.

It will open its doors at its centre in Hamble Lane, Netley to aspiring volunteers on Thursday, June 9.

All volunteers receive professional training, including qualifications in search techniques, first aid, map reading, radio operation, search planning and management.

HANTSAR chairman, Tony Privett, said: ‘HANTSAR exists only through the support of all of its volunteers, both operational for searching and support for raising funds.

‘We welcome help from new members for both parts of the team.’

The organisation helps police to search for other items, such as evidence or missing vehicles. The group also helps in cases of civil emergency or natural disaster.
