Long delays on M27 after crash

DRIVERS faced lengthy delays on the M27 after a crash this morning.

One lane was blocked on the westbound route between Junction 7 at Hedge End and Junction 5 at Eastleigh after a collision between a Peugeot 3008 and a BMW.

Motorists faced delays as emergency services worked to clear the road.

After being called to the crash at 8.20am, crews of firefighters from stations at St Mary's, Hightown and Redbridge attended the scene.

They freed one person from one of the cars who was then passed into the care of South Central Ambulance Service (Scas) paramedics, before issuing a stop message at 9.29am.

Scas confirmed one patient with non-critical injuries was taken to University Hospital Southampton.

The incident comes as work to convert part of the M27 into a smart motorway officially begins this week '“ with narrow lanes and speed limits in place between Junction 4 and Junction 5, eastbound.

It caused tailbacks to Junction 9 of the M27 westbound at Whitley.
