Man dies in '˜cycling accident' on Billy Trail at Hayling Island

A CYCLIST has died on a popular nature trail on Hayling Island.

Hampshire police said a 52-year-old man died on the Billy Trail at Sinah Lane this morning.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

A South Central Ambulance Serivce spokeswoman said: ‘We were called at 10.39am.

‘This was to reports to an accident that happened.

‘We sent a variety of resources including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, a community responder, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew, an ambulance officer and the emergency care response unit.

‘They were assessing and treating a gentleman who sadly was confirmed deceased at the scene.

‘I understand it was a cycling accident.’

She added some crew were sent to Denhill Close due to access to the trail.

A Hampshire spokesman added: ‘Officers were called at 10.51am today following the sudden death of a 52-year-old man close to Denhill Close on Hayling Island.

‘The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.’
