The accident westbound between junctions 12 and 11 happened at 7.43am involving a car and a motorcycle.

A police spokesman said only minor injuries were reported from both accidents.

Both crashes caused long delays for rush-hour commuters, with queues building up from Hedge End in the west and back to the A27 near Havant in the east.

Long queues soon built up on other roads, particularly the A27, as drivers avoided the motorway.

Highways England confirmed at around 8.30am that all lanes on the M27 had been reopened, but delays remained.
