Photographer affected by Southern strike chaos forks out £100 for hire car

Hannah Kenyon has forked out £100 for a vehicle to get her from Hove to Havant each day – and is hoping Southern will cover costs as she says the company is to blame.

The 27-year-old, originally from Hayling Island, said: ‘Southern is just a pain and it’s so stressful.

‘I live in Hove and I work in Emsworth. It’s quite a commute; it’s an hour on the train when they are running smoothly.

‘But the last six or seven months have been awful.

‘There is daily stress and you never know if a train is going to turn up. I have quite bad anxiety and I get up and go to bed thinking whether I’m going to make it home or get to work each day.

‘I have had to hire a car to drive to work because there is no train between Chichester and Havant.

‘When I spoke to someone about what I can do, they said; “get a bus”.

‘Getting a car has cost me £100 for the week.

‘I am going to try to claim that back, because it’s Southern’s fault that I have had to take extreme measures to get to work. I don’t have the luxury of being able to work from home.’

Hannah said she understands the frustration of conductors – but wants things to be sorted.

She said: ‘It’s a ridiculous situation.’
