Plane crash lands at Daedalus airfield

The light aircraft Saratoga was coming into land over land when it did not make the runway and ‘impaled’ its propeller in the grass on Tuesday afternoon.

No-one was injured in the crash and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been informed.

Cllr Sean Woodward, Fareham council leader and a pilot, saw the wreckage yesterday, a day after the crash.

Cllr Woodward, who did not witness the landing, said: ‘The plane came down about 50 yards before the threshold of the runway.

‘It mean it became impaled in grass so the propeller was bent, the undercarriage was broken.

‘It was recovered yesterday.

‘It’s a lovely plane but not so lovely at the moment, fortunately no-one was injured.’

He added: ‘I think it’s more dented pride rather than dented people, it’s good no-one was hurt.’

It’s understood one person was in the plane at the time.

Cllr Woodward added: ‘You get very minor thing from time to time, bounces, bits of metal broken, but we’ve not seen one like this for a long, long time.’
