Pub evacuated after smoke scare in Gosport

PUNTERS have been evacuated from a pub in Gosport after a smoke scare in the building.

Firefighters were called to The White Hart pub in Stoke Road earlier this afternoon after reports of a smoke smell inside.

The entire building was evacuated while fire crews from Gosport, Fareham and Portchester dealt with the incident.

A spokesman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue said: '˜We were called at 1.57pm this afternoon following reports of the smell of smoke inside the pub.

'˜It looks like smoke coming from a light fitting '“ at that point, the crews from Fareham and Portchester were sent back.

'˜Fire safety advice was given to the staff and the pub was handed back over to the owners at 3.30pm.'
