Royal Navy dispose of unexploded mine found at Stokes Bay
AN UNEXPLODED mine from the Second World War was found in Stokes Bay.
The Coastguard and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from the Royal Navy destroyed the mine yesterday morning.
Hill Head Coastguard were called to the beach on Friday evening after the ordnance was discovered.
Due to the tides, a controlled explosion could not be carried out until Sunday morning.
A spokeswoman from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency confirmed the mine was found around 5pm on Friday morning and was disposed of at 8.15am yesterday.
