Seven saved in Solent boat drama

Seven people were rescued from a sinking boat in the Solent today.

They were on a committee vessel monitoring a yacht race off Cowes when the craft began to subside.

Cowes RNLI lifeboat was called just before 1pm after a call saying that the Royal Ocean Racing Club catamaran Twin Wakes was taking on water.

A Cowes lifeboat spokesman said the the engine room had flooded and the boat, which was on monitoring duty for the during the J111 Garmin World Championship race.

was sinking.

The vessel stabilised after the people on board were evacuated.

They were taken back to Cowes by a police boat, and the catamaran was towed to shore by Cowes lifeboat.
