Last month, The News revealed that the number of collisions causing injuries along a much-criticised stretch of the M27 has increased on average since it was expanded from three to four lanes.

On Monday, two people were rushed to hospital after a bin lorry overturned in wind, between junctions 11 and 12, causing a full closure of M27 eastbound.

A two-vehicle crash between junction 8 and 9 also caused hold-ups on the M27 westbound earlier this month.

In 2008 the route between J11 and J12 near Portsmouth was expanded to reduce congestion on the route and making driving safer.

But Freedom of Information figures obtained by Hampshire Constabulary showed that on average, there have been more major collisions since the change was made to both sides.

Today’s crash has caused setbacks across several Hampshire roads including the A27 and B2177. The motorcyclist had suffered neck, arm and leg injuries, while two other people had minor injuries.
