Stubbington bypass moves closer to getting the go-ahead

MONEY for a new bypass that would reduce congestion is likely to be included in the Autumn Statement, a report suggests.

Sky News says Chancellor of the Exchequer Phillip Hammond is set to invest £15bn in Britain’s transport system when he makes the statement on November 23.

A bid by the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership has been placed to gain £25m to fund the Stubbington bypass – an alternative route for vehicles travelling from Gosport to Fareham.

Councillor Sean Woodward, leader of Fareham Borough Council, is hopeful the project will get the green light.

Cllr Woodward said: ‘We have done everything we need to do to have our bid accepted.

‘We have the planning permission and have gained £8m funding – that is exactly what the chancellor requires.’
