Trains cancelled on Portsmouth-Waterloo line

Rail passengers faced problems today as some trains were cancelled on the Portsmouth-Waterloo line.

The disruption was caused by a defective track near Wimbledon that affected services to and from the south coast.

South West Trains said: ‘Due to a speed restriction over defective track between Raynes Park and Wimbledon fewer trains are able to run on some London bound lines.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 10 mins or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

‘A fault has been found on a section of track in the Raynes Park area, which requires a speed restriction over the affected area.

‘Due to the frequency of services on London bound lines in the morning peak time, short delays can quickly build up, and the short time our trains spend at London Waterloo can mean that trains are delayed on their next journey.’
