UPDATE: Moped rider seriously hurt in Southsea crash

The 46-year-old man from Portsmouth hit the back of a car that had stopped at a pedestrian crossing in Victoria Road North near its junction withMontgomery Road in Southsea.

It happened at around 10.34am.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed on Southsea Common.

The moped rider, who it is thought may have hit the rear of the car, was taken by road ambulance with air ambulance medics to Southampton General Hospital.

Both vehicles were travelling north at the time and the moped was behind the car.

PC Mike Batten, from Havant Roads Policing Unit, said he is appealing for two men involved in an unconnected altercation to come forward with information.

He said: ‘We’re looking for two drivers parked further down the road involved in an altercation and they most certainly witnessed what happened.’

The altercation is not involved in the crash.

All roads have since re-opened at 11.35am.

Witnesses should call police on 101 with information.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called at 10.30am today to reports of a motorbike in collision with the rear of a car.

‘We sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the scene, and the air ambulance was called for as well.

‘We treated a male patient with serious injuries who was conveyed by land to Southampton General.

‘The air ambulance crew travelled with the patient in the ambulance.’
