Update: Trains from Portsmouth disrupted after man killed on line

British Transport Police said they were called to East Worthing station at just before 11.20am.

A spokesman said: “Officers from British Transport Police and Sussex Police attended the incident, alongside colleagues from the ambulance service.

“A man has been pronounced dead at the scene and officers are now working to identify the man and inform his family.

“The incident is not believed to be suspicious.”

A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service said that a member of the public called them at 11.15am to say that a young man, believed to be in his early twenties, had been hit by the train.

He said one ambulance and four cars were in attendance and an air ambulance was briefly at the scene.

Southern Railway has said lines are now reopened between Littlehampton and Brighton which were blocked earlier due to the incident.

They added that the current was recharged at 12.37pm and normal working resumed at 12.46pm. Services were forecast to return to normal later this afternoon.
