UPDATE: Tributes paid to Gosport van driver who died in collision near Basingstoke

EMOTIONAL tributes have been paid to a 38-year-old man who died in a road traffic collision.

Duncan Appleby, of Coronado Road, Gosport, was involved in a crash at the junction between the A30 and A33 near Basingstoke last Thursday.

His Ford Transit van collided with a lorry at around 4.10pm.

Duncan was taken to Southampton General Hospital but died the following day.

His fiancé, Lisa Uniacke paid a heart-warming tribute to her husband on Facebook

She said: ‘Thank you to each and every person that has sent me a message.

‘I don’t have the concentration to reply to you all but every word I’ve read has touched my heart.

‘I feel honoured to have had Duncan in my life – he made it so much better.

‘Missing him like crazy.’

Friend Emma Stubbs, also paid her respects to Duncan.

She said: ‘I will always remember moving on to Jervis Drive 25 years ago jumping around in the bouncing bushes.

‘You become a good mate and even as years aged you were always that cheeky, loving person.

‘My heart goes out to your loved ones. You will be always missed. RIP Duncan Appleby..XXXX.’

Ken Baker wrote on Facebook: ‘Absolutely saddened to hear about Duncan Appleby, RIP buddy!

‘Having a little drink for you tonight. Thoughts are with all your family, mate.’

Nicholas Adam Hosell added: ‘So sorry to see this. He was a good man.

‘My thoughts are with all the family.’

Mr Appleby’s passenger, a 30-year-old man from Gosport, remains in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The three people in the lorry were treated for minor injuries at the scene. No-one else was hurt.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone who saw the collision or either vehicle prior to the incident has been urged to come forward.
