A27 closed eastbound at Emsworth after crash

The A27 was completely shut eastbound at Emsworth this morning.

It follows a crash earlier on the major road between A259 Havant Road and Cathedral Way.

Motorists were warned of heavy delays on approach as a result of the incident.

Two lanes were initially closed but later all three lanes were shut, Romanse has reported.

One motorist has told The News that they have been at a standstill for 75 minutes.

A27 eastbound closed due to road traffic incident

  • Sussex Police has warned people to seek alternative routes if possible

Sussex Police release statement

"Just after 10am on Thursday (18 June) a car left the eastbound carriageway and crashed on the A27 between Emsworth and Chichester and the driver was reported to have sustained minor injuries. 

"No other vehicle or person was reported to have been involved. The road was closed in both directions while emergency services attended to the casualty and debris across the road, but was reopened in both directions just after midday."

All lanes have now reopened

Delays up to 90 minutes

All lanes remain closed and officers from Sussex Police are on scene dealing with the incident. 

Traffic information service Romanse has said delays have now increased to 90 minutes.
