Two people hospitalised after four vehicles caught up in major A3 crash

TWO people have been taken to hospital after a major crash on the A3 this morning.

The A3 southbound was brought to a standstill this morning from the Winchester Road roundabout in Petersfield to Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Horndean.

One incident had taken place at the Liphook-Petersfield bypass junction, with a second crash near the country park involving an overturned trailer and four total vehicles.

Both lanes were blocked on the southbound carriageway, with motorists facing delays of more than 45 minutes.

Paramedics have confirmed that two people were hospitalised as a result of the incident by the country park.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: ‘We were contacted by Hampshire police at 8.28am informing us of a four car collision on the A3 south of Petersfield.

‘We sent a rapid response vehicle and three ambulances to the incident.

‘There was one driver in each of the four vehicles involved; three of them had sustained minor injuries, one of whom required hospital treatment and was taken to the QA Hospital. The fourth driver had sustained a head and back injury and was also taken to the QA Hospital for further assessment and treatment.’

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘We were called at 8.25am today to reports of a four vehicle collision on the southbound A3, just passed the Burriton exit.

‘A road closure is currently in place, including the Burriton off-slip, to enable us to deal with this incident.

‘One man has received injuries, they are not thought to be serious at this time.’

Police say that the other incident has been recovered and traffic is moving.
